grandfatherly advice

"Let me tell you," he said - nay, commanded - in Chinese. "Do two things."

"First, go be a lawyer in China. Don't be a lawyer in America anymore. Go to Beijing. That's where the opportunities are. Lots to do."

"Second, you must find a husband." To ensure my comprehension, he actually said "husband" in English. "Do you understand? Find a husband."

Ha! At least he wants you to work in Beijing, which is the capital. He wants me to move my whole family to Nanchang, which is like Birmingham, ALABAMA.

Just nod and say, "hao."

Hey Karis, Bangkok misses you "pen khon Thai ka" but it was really good to have you visit. Thanks for sharing our life here with us. Also thank you so much for the bug repelant and generous dinner in the starburst--we will enjoy it together when lexie and michelle get back--mostly missing our sugar momma.

girlfriend - reading your blog is like having you here ... almost but not quite ... we are missing you but need you to be travelling around getting sage advice from your grandfather. at least he didn't say (in any language) "go forth and multiply"!
